Source: MMA Fighting
Date: 2022-06-25

@UFCFightPass, TwitterDemian Maia got the the better of a former UFC champion on Saturday and then called for a match with two of the promotion’s most notorious stars. The two-time UFC title challenger won a unanimous decision over Bellator fighter Benson Henderson in a grappling bout at Polaris 20 in Newport, Wales, on Saturday. Maia and Henderson’s contest took place over a single 20-minute round and Maia controlled the majority of the action to win on points. Afterwards, Maia was asked who he’d like to grapple at a future Polaris event and he called out Nate and Nick Diaz. “There is some great guys that I would fight, like Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz would be nice if they want because they have great jiu-jitsu,” Maia said. “It would be very cool and I’m sure people would like [it].” Demian Maia just called out the Diaz Bros ️[ #Polaris20 | | on #UFCFIGHTPASS ] pic.twitter.com/lbIz04etDy— UFC FIGHT PASS (@UFCFightPass) June 25, 2022 This was Maia’s secon

Video: Stevie Ray submits Anthony Pettis with modified body triangle at PFL 5

Stevie Ray submitted Anthony Pettis at PFL 5. | PFL MMAIt’s an all too familiar feeling for ‘Showtime.’ On an upset-filled night at PFL 5, Stevie Ray over Anthony Pettis wasn’t really a major shock in terms of the betting lines. What was the shock was how it materialized. Ray submitted the former UFC lightweight champion in the second round with a modified body triangle. You can see Pettis in pain as he tried to scramble out of the body triangle. It almost looks like a twister and while it isn’t quite that, it’s still incredibly painful to look at and surely to experience. You may recall back in 2017 he tapped to a Dustin Poirier body triangle, and it was revealed afterward that he suffered a fractured rib. When the fight was over, Pettis was holding his ribs so perh

Oliveira Slams Costa: ‘He Got Finished By A White Belt’

Source: MMA Mania
Date: 2022-06-25

Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLCCharles Oliveira is not happy with fellow countryman Paulo Costa and he’s here to put “Borrachinha” in his place. After failing to make weight for his lightweight title defense against Justin Gaethje back at UFC 274 Oliveira caught significant flack around the MMA community. The Brazilian champion had only missed weight by .5 pounds, but it was the first time a UFC champion missed weight on the day of weigh ins and was stripped of their title. Luckily for Oliveira, he was still able to defeat Gaethje via first-round submission and line himself up for a chance to take his title back his next time around. One of the people to speak out about Oliveira’s small weight miss was none other than Costa, who seems to poke the bear quite a bit these days. Costa has been on a steady decline in the UFC’s middleweight division after starting his UFC career with a 5-0 record and that includes an atrocious weight miss for his last fight with Marvin Vettori bac

Johnny Eblen: ‘There’s no question I’m the best in the world’ after Gegard Mousasi upset

Source: MMA Fighting
Date: 2022-06-25

Bellator MMANew Bellator middleweight champion Johnny Eblen may have been counted out by everyone but those in the know. He believed all along he would beat Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 282. Eblen was a solid betting underdog heading into Friday’s event and didn’t get much attention going up against the two-time champion, who carried more than four times his professional experience in the cage. Yet when the two clashed at Mohegan Sun Arena, Eblen led the conversation for 25 minutes, scoring a 50-45 shutout on all judges’ cards. “I hurt him, and I f****** dominated in the wrestling, I dominated in the grappling and I went all five rounds, and I won every single round,” Eblen told reporters after the fight. “So it just shuts up all the haters. It shuts up everybody. There’s no question I’m the best middleweight in the world.” If nothing else, Eblen has seriously shaken up the rankings in the middleweight division and pound-for-pound lists. Mousasi was No. 3 in the form

Video: What 'Ultimate Fighter' coaching pair would get you buzzing?

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2022-06-25

“The Ultimate Fighter” returned this year for its 30th season. The longtime UFC reality competition series, which is credited for helping the promotion take things to the next level, has had all kinds of epic coaching pairs over its historic run. Right now, women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Peña is coaching opposite the all-time great she beat for the title, Amanda Nunes. And while it’s not a sure thing “TUF” will be back for Season 31, the presumption has been that it will be – and rumors have been swirling for months about whom the coaches could be. Included in that mix has been the hope for former lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is retired, and Tony Ferguson – because those two had five fights booked, and five fights canceled for various reasons on each side. So if “TUF 31” happens, what are the other dream coaching matchups that would be great for the series and the sport? Our panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Nolan King and Matt Wells brea

Paul Calls Tyson Fury’s Bet, Raises Him $3 Million

Source: MMA Mania
Date: 2022-06-25

Photo by Sarah Stier/Getty ImagesNow that Jake Paul is officially scheduled to fight Tommy Fury at Madison Square Garden this coming August the bets are beginning to roll in. Paul and Fury were originally expected to fight inside the boxing ring in Dec. 2021, but an injury to Fury knocked him out of the fight and former UFC champion, Tyron Woodley, filled in for a rematch with “Problem Child.” Paul ended up scoring an infamous one-punch knockout (watch HERE), but he still had unsettled beef with Fury. Luckily, both sides were able to finalize a deal this past week to meet in New York City. It will be Paul’s opportunity to finally compete against a boxer with legitimate experience and Fury’s chance to put an end to Paul’s boxing extravaganza. It’s hard to predict who will have the upper hand when they meet in about six weeks, but Tyson Fury believes his younger half-brother will have no trouble putting “Problem Child” out to pasture. Earlier this week, the newly-retired

Adrian Yanez when he defeated Tony Kelley at UFC Austin. | Photo by Louis Grasse/PxImages/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesSean O’Malley earns his latest call-out from the UFC roster. Adrian Yanez solidified his status as one of the most exciting prospects in MMA last weekend when he blasted through Tony Kelley to open the main card of UFC Austin. The win moved the bantamweight’s record to 12-3 and extended his winning streak to nine fights. Yanez’s win over Kelley gained added attention after Yanez hit a stunned Kelley with double-birds. The gesture was a reaction to Kelley’s last appearance near an Octagon. While cornering his girlfriend Andrea Lee, a microphone caught Kelley saying that Lee’s opponent was a “dirty Brazilian” and that Brazilian fighters are cheaters. The win earned Yanez plenty of fans and also scored him an interview with TMZ — an outlet that usually focuses on MMA’s top needle-movers. With those gossip-mongers Yanez spoke about what he wants nex

Video: Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva suffers ugly knockout loss, runs winless streak to 7

Source: MMA Fighting
Date: 2022-06-25

@wrestlejamia, TwitterThe bad times continue to roll for Antonio Silva. “Bigfoot” was on the receiving end of yet another ugly knockout blow as he fell to Russian heavyweight Oleg Popov at an MMA Series event in Moscow on Friday. Watch the knockout sequence above. Silva, a one-time UFC heavyweight title challenger, stepped right into a lightning-fast left hand from Popov that immediately sent him down to the canvas. Popov landed a follow-up ground strike, but backed off when the referee stepped in and it was apparent that Silva was unconscious. The official time of the stoppage was 0:15 of Round 2. This is the 11th straight knockout loss for Silva (19-14, 1 NC), who lost his seventh straight fight and his 10th in his past 11 outings (excluding a no contest). All but one of those losses have come via KO/TKO. The 42-year-old Brazilian has just one win dating back to May 2013 and has also suffered knockout losses in bare-knuckle boxing and kickboxing during his slump. Popov, 30, kept

Cat Zingano thinks long-discussed shot at Bellator champ Cris Cyborg should be next

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2022-06-25

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Cat Zingano moved to 3-0 under the Bellator banner Friday, but it didn’t come without some discomfort. Zingano (13-4 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) dominated Pam Sorenson (9-5 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) in their women’s featherweight bout at the Bellator 282 preliminary card at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. She lost a point for an illegal knee, and when she threw another knee later, she wound up tweaking it – and said that led to a change in game plan the rest of the way. “I’m happy with the performance,” Zingano told MMA Junkie after the fight. “I feel like I was very dominant. I get (to top position on the canvas) a lot and I stay there a lot, and I feel like I cause a lot of damage. It’s a very comfortable, happy place for me. I feel like I want to be doing more. “I feel like I got some really good head kicks off on her and at one point, I watched one land and as I turned away, I just watched her head start dripping. I’m like, ‘Damn, she’s got a chin.

USA TODAY via Imagn Content Services, LLCSean O’Malley is preparing for his biggest fight yet when he takes on bantamweight veteran Pedro Munhoz at UFC 276 early next month, but “Sugar” is also plotting his UFC takeover and eventual crossover into boxing. As one of the most promising young fighters on the UFC roster today O’Malley commands a ton of attention each and every time he steps inside of the Octagon. The 27-year-old fighter hasn’t defeated any top names as of yet, but he’ll get his chance to enter the bantamweight top 10 with a win over Munhoz next weekend in Las Vegas. O’Malley, who believes he’s ready to fight the best 135-pounders in the world today, is as confident as they come. With a 7-1 UFC record and five knockout wins under his belt since making his debut back in 2017 it’s easy to see why. “Sugar” is hoping to continue his winning ways in order to climb the bantamweight ladder and fight his way to a title.
