Video: Is Sergio Pettis the front runner for 2022 Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix?

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-12-08

Sergio Pettis didn’t have the easiest day at the office in the main event of Bellator 272, but he still got the job done. Pettis took care of business after being pushed hard by former Bellator champ Kyoji Horiguchi. However, Pettis was able to recognize he was down on the scorecards and went on to record one of the most spectacular knockouts of the year to retain his bantamweight title. Bellator announced an incredible lineup for its upcoming 8-man bantamweight grand prix, with Pettis being a part of the mix. The bracket isn’t set yet, but talented opponents await such as Raufeon Stots, Patch Mix, Magomed Magomedov, and the man he just got by in Horiguchi. Considering the hurdles Pettis had to overcome at Friday’s event, is he odds on favorite to retain the belt all the way through the tournament? Our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Nolan King, Matthew Wells, and “Gorgeous” George Garcia discuss this topic with host John Morgan. Check out the discussion in the clip ab

Kambosos Jr. To Train With Volkanovski, Teases MMA Jump

Source: MMA Mania
Date: 2021-12-08

Photo by Al Bello/Getty ImagesGeorges Kambosos Jr. defeated Teofimo Lopez in a masterful performance last month to take several of Lopez’s Lightweight belts, improving his record to a mint 20-0 in the process. But just because he’s at the top of the boxing game doesn’t mean he intends to slow down one bit. If anything he’s working to improve even more. During a recent interview on The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting), Kambosos revealed plans to link up with current UFC Featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski in the near future in order to assist “The Geat” with his striking. And the striking specialist is out to get some pointers from Volks, as well. “I’m a very good fan of the UFC. I love the sport, I love combat sport. And me and Alex have a good relationship as well. He’s been supporting me, I’ve been supporting him, and I said I’m going to come back with all these belts — obviously, he’s the UFC featherweight king and I’m the lightweight king, and we’re g

Mission accomplished: Neiman Gracie thinks he's put more striking respect on legendary surname

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-12-08

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – When Neiman Gracie set out to compete as a mixed martial arts professional, he had a handful of goals both short-term and long-term he hoped to accomplish. Every fighter wants to be champion, a feat Gracie (11-2 MMA, 9-2 BMMA) has still yet to accomplish under the Bellator banner. However, Gracie is comfortable with the progress he’s made in disassociating the stigma of only being able to grapple as a “Gracie.” “I think I’m doing already one of the things that I wanted to do, which was try to bring the Gracies to the next level, meaning that we can do everything, not just go for takedowns and do jiu-jitsu,” Gracie told MMA Junkie Radio recently when caught “Off Guard.” “Since I started MMA, I always thought of bringing the Gracie name to the new level of fighting in every aspect of the fight and being a complete fighter. I think I’m doing that already, but I want to be a world champion, man. This is the main thing. I will do it one da

‘I couldn’t be happier for him’ - DC admits tattoo bet ‘worked’ for Woodley

Source: Bloody Elbow
Date: 2021-12-08

Tyron Woodley stalks Jake Paul during their August PPV boxing match. | Photo by Jason Miller/Getty ImagesDC was one of Woodley’s principal critics over the ex-welterweight champ’s decision to go through with his tattoo bet against Jake Paul, after losing their first boxing match back in August. “Don’t do it”—that was the advice Daniel Cormier gave Tyron Woodley when it started to sound like the former welterweight UFC champion was going to get “I love Jake Paul” tattooed on his body. The ink was the result of a handshake bet made with Paul ahead of their August PPV bout, that the loser would forever carry the winner’s name. Woodley walked out with a split decision loss. And despite attempting to raise the stakes, and make a rematch as a condition of getting the tattoo done, Woodley eventually caved, and got the new body art on the underside of his middle finger on his left hand. And even though Paul dismissed the idea of a rematch following the completion of the bet

Chris Curtis wants Dusko Todorovic fight to avenge friend Maki Pitolo’s loss

Source: MMA Fighting
Date: 2021-12-08

Brendan Allen and Chris Curtis | Zuffa LLCChris Curtis has a little revenge on his mind. The affable veteran — now 2-0 in the UFC following a TKO victory over Brendan Allen this past Saturday at UFC Vegas 44 — was paying close attention to another middleweight bout on the same card featuring his friend and training partner Maki Pitolo and Dusko Todorovic. In the featured preliminary bout, Pitolo lost by TKO, a result that has put Todorovic squarely on Curtis’ radar. Curtis, a career welterweight, isn’t exactly sure what’s next for him, but he does like the idea of taking on Todorovic to potentially prove a point. “I guess I’m an ‘85er now,” Curtis said on The MMA Hour. “Like I say it’s a weird joke that got out of hand, but I guess I’m an ‘85er now. The only thing is I don’t really know who exists at 185. It’s not a weight class I was eyeing. There’s like a ton of ‘70s I wanted to fight, but at ‘85 I have no idea who’s in this weight class. “But

Giga Chikadze already 'the people's champ,' expects UFC title shot with win over Calvin Kattar

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-12-08

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Giga Chikadze believes he is ready for a title shot now, but he has no problem getting through Calvin Kattar first. Chikadze (14-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) meets Kattar (22-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night main event on Jan. 15 and with Max Holloway having already lost to featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski twice, Chikadze thinks that makes his case for a title shot even stronger. “Definitely,” Chikadze told MMA Junkie Radio. “I think I could even fight without him. There is no one to fight for the title. I don’t know if they’re gonna schedule Max because he beat Yair (Rodriguez) and Calvin. They’ve been talking about this, and I get it, but this fight already happened twice. So I could pass this and just ask for a title (shot), but I want to fight someone from the top five, and Calvin Kattar’s name came. I think that was the only guy who wasn’t busy, and ‘Zombie’ (Chan Sung Jung) was injured, so I picked Kattar, and now we have h

A sequel that seemed as if it would never actually materialize, despite the tattoo; however, when Tommy Fury pulled out of his upcoming bout with Paul, the ‘Chosen One’ was asked to step in on short notice. That means we have some official betting odds for Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley II now available. Let’s take a look at them. Online gambling site Sportsbetting.ag has Jake Paul opening up as a significant betting favorite over Tyron Woodley. Paul is clocking in with a moneyline of -270, with a winning $100 ticket at that line seeing a total payout of $137.04. As for Woodley,

Beneil Dariush discusses two most complete lightweights, significance of sticking to plan

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-12-08

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Beneil Dariush believes he’s set to face one of the most well rounded fighters in the division. Dariush will meet Islam Makhachev on Feb. 26 in the main event of UFC Fight Night, and he sees the grappling ace as one of the toughest tests at 155 pounds. Versatile in every aspect of the game himself, Dariush (21-4-1 MMA, 15-4-1 UFC) also sees lightweight champion Charles Oliveira (31-8 MMA, 19-8 UFC) as one of the biggest threats in the division. “I believe the most complete guys in our division are Islam and Charles,” Dariush told MMA Junkie Radio. “I think those are the two most complete guys. So, I think those will be my most difficult matchups, but a good game plan can mess up anybody. No matter how good you stylistically match up, If someone can execute the game plan, it changes the game.” Heading into his pivotal No. 1 contender clash with Makhachev (21-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC), Dariush is riding an impressive seven-fight winning streak, most recen
