MMA fans of a certain age might remember seeing Anderson Silva celebrating his defence of the UFC middleweight title by bringing his children into the ring. Back then, his two sons looked all swallowed up in their sharp black suits. Well, those boys are all grown up now. And they are both following in their father’s footsteps. If, in this case, the apples don’t fall far from the tree, watch out world. Garbrandt: Moreno Title Fight ‘Makes Sense’

Source: MMA Mania
Date: 2021-07-26

Photo by Mike Roach/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty ImagesFormer UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt was hoping to secure title shots in two separate weight classes after the promotion promised him a crack at the flyweight crown. Then came a decision loss to Rob Font at UFC Vegas 27, forcing “No Love” to abandon his quest at 135 pounds. Downward and upward? “Flyweight is where I was supposed to go to over a year ago,” Garbrandt told TMZ Sports. “I was supposed to fight Figueiredo but I got COVID and had to pull out. They said I still had the title shot when I came back. They were gonna rematch [Figueiredo and Moreno] but I didn’t want to wait that long, so I took the Rob Font fight. I didn’t want to sit idle for a year, that’s how you kill your career.” Garbrandt was booked for the UFC 255 pay-per-view (PPV) last November but his title shot was eventually passed down to Brandon Moreno when “No Love” contracted coronavirus. “The Babyface Assassin” battled t

Stipe Miocic angry he’s not getting automatic rematch with Francis Ngannou, teases interest in ONE Championship

Source: MMA Fighting
Date: 2021-07-26

Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLCStipe Miocic believes he should be fighting Francis Ngannou next and he’s not happy about waiting for a trilogy with the series tied between them at one win a piece. The former UFC heavyweight champion expressed his frustrations in an Instagram post made by ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong asking about who he should sign next to the Asian based promotion. In response, Miocic dropped a number of the “thinking face” emojis, which of course resulted in a flurry of responses. When one fan mused about Miocic getting the winner of Ngannou’s next fight, which will presumably come against the winner of the upcoming interim title bout between Ciryl Gane and Derrick Lewis, the Ohio native explained why he’s angry about that scenario. “I shouldn’t have to wait for a winner,” Miocic wrote. “I have the most heavyweight title defenses of all time. We’re 1-1 but [Daniel Cormier] got instant rematches and trilogies against me?” Miocic refer

Khasan Magomedsharipov still has the same date for his Bellator debut, but with a different opponent. Originally expected to fight Nekruz Mirkhojaev at Bellator 263, Magomedsharipov (5-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) now meets Jonathan Quieroz (3-4 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) in a featherweight fight on the July 31 undercard. A promotion official recently informed MMA Junkie of the change. TASS was first to report the news Monday. The reason for Mirkhojaev’s withdrawal was not given. Magomedsharipov, brother of UFC featherweight contender Zabit, signed with the promotion in February. He enters Bellator as an undefeated professional. In five pro fights, Magomedsharipov, 20, has earned four finishes, including three submissions and a knockout. Hector Lombard at BKFC 10. | Photo by Alex Menendez/Getty ImagesFormer UFC fighters Tyron Woodley and Hector Lombard seemed to be setting up a future fight at BKFC. At this weekend’s BKFC 19 cameras conveniently caught current BKFC cruiserweight champion Hector Lombard confronting former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. The confrontation seemed to revolve around some sort of love triangle and lead to a proposal for the pair to face each other in bare knuckle competition. Check out what went down below: So I guess Tyron Woodley was trying to game Hector Lombard's girl so Hector confronted him lol pic.twitter.com/ZtsTYaLSrz— Jason Williams (@jasoneg33) July 25, 2021 “I had to talk to you face to face, like the fucking man like I am,” said Lombard at the beginning of the video. “Remember when you tried to fuck my side chick? Remember?” “I remember,” said Woodley, stoically. “Right? That’s fucking wrong,” continued Lombard. “No! That’s fucking wrong

Robbery Review: Maycee Barber vs. Miranda Maverick at UFC Vegas 32

Source: MMA Fighting
Date: 2021-07-26

Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty ImagesFew things infuriate MMA fans more than a fight being scored incorrectly, though the term “robbery” tends to be thrown around carelessly and is often steeped in bias. With Robbery Review, we’ll take a look back at controversial fights and determine whether the judges were rightly criticized for their decision or if pundits need to examine their own knee-jerk reactions. For a good 10 minutes on Saturday night, Maycee “The Future” Barber’s prospects weren’t looking too bright. Coming off of back-to-back losses, Barber was matched up with fellow flyweight prospect Miranda Maverick on the UFC Vegas 32 main card and the predominant opinion leading into the fight was that it was Maverick’s time to steal the shine of the Contender Series signing who had previously made it a goal to become the youngest world champion in UFC history. That prediction seemed accurate early on as Barber got off to such a slow start that her coach Uri

Salty Stipe Flirts With ONE Championship

Source: MMA Mania
Date: 2021-07-26

Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty ImagesStipe Miocic recently told the combat sports media he “didn’t care” about the name of his next opponent and would probably return “early next year.” Yeah ... forget all that. The former UFC heavyweight champion turns 39 in just a few weeks and no longer wants to sit on his ass while the promotion sorts through some of its 265-pound clutter, starting with the interim heavyweight title fight between top contenders Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane at UFC 265 on Aug. 7 in Houston, Texas. That’s probably why Miocic, who lost his division title by way of thunderous knockout to Francis Ngannou in the UFC 260 pay-per-view (PPV) main event back in March, was flirting with ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong on social media. Sityodtong has a history of signing former UFC champions — even the ones who got knocked out — and asked his Instagram followers which athlete should top the list of potential newcomers. Miocic responde

Cody Garbrandt doesn't think T.J. Dillashaw did enough to beat Cory Sandhagen: 'Cory looked cleaner and did more damage'

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-07-26

Cody Garbrandt thinks the wrong man got his hand raised in the UFC on ESPN 27 main event. Former two-time UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw (16-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) returned from a two-year U.S. Anti-Doping Agency suspension to edge out rising star Cory Sandhagen at Saturday’s event, and Garbrandt thinks the judges got it wrong. “Legit thought Cory did way more damage the take downs didn’t do sh-t with them and controlling him against the cage wasn’t a deciding factor, Cory looked cleaner and did more damage. Feel for Cory that was his fight.” Legit thought Cory did way more damage the take downs didn’t do shit with them and controlling him against the cage wasn’t a deciding factor, Cory looked cleaner and did more damage. Feel for Cory that was his fight. https://t.co/kSgh1VsrDq — Cody Garbrandt (@Cody_Nolove) July 25, 2021 Though Sandhagen busted up the former champ with an array of diverse strikes, a compromised Dillashaw never stopped coming forward, using
