Despite soundly beating Colby Covington, and breaking his jaw, at UFC 245 Kamaru Usman is set to defend his UFC welterweight title against ‘Chaos’ for a second time. That rematch is slated to take place at UFC 268 on November 6. To get hyped for the rematch, check out the video below that was assembled by our friends at Combat Culture. Cooper To UFC? Not So Fast...

Source: MMA Mania
Date: 2021-10-28

Cooper NeillRay Cooper III earned his second $1 million check from Professional Fighters League (PFL) last night (Weds., Oct. 27, 2021) by stopping Magomed Magomedkerimov via devastating knockout in the third round. By doing so, “Bradda Boy” repeated as season champion and got revenge on Magomedkerimov, who defeated him in 2018 to win that season. Afterward, Cooper talked about his win and threw down the gauntlet, saying he is confident he can take out not only Bellator’s champion Yaroslav Amasov, but UFC wrecking machine Kamaru Usman, as well. “I know I’m the best. I’ll take out the UFC champion, the Bellator champion. We should go out and unify the belts. Put me against anybody, I’ll take them all out,” said a highly-confident Cooper. His comments were echoed by PFL President Ray Sefo, who said his fighter is without a doubt the best 170-pounder in the game today. When asked about his fighting future, Cooper says he is more than happy with PFL but wouldn’t comment

Claressa Shields reacts to Jake Paul’s comments following PFL loss: ‘You won’t accomplish 10 percent what I have’

Source: MMA Fighting
Date: 2021-10-28

Photo by Elsa/Getty ImagesClaressa Shields is keeping her head up after suffering the first pro loss of her combat sports career on Wednesday. In just her second MMA fight, the world champion boxer in multiple weight classes dropped a split decision to Abigail Montes at the PFL Championship event in Hollywood, Fla. Shields is now 1-1 in her short mixed martial arts career. Following the loss, YouTuber and undefeated pro boxer Jake Paul took the opportunity to call Shields “a loser,” and anoint Amanda Serrano as the greatest women’s boxer of all-time. On Thursday, Shields responded to Paul, and to her loss, via her Twitter. “This is funny,” Shields said when responding to Paul. “You come running when I lose a split decision in a [whole] new world [in] MMA but never even once said, ‘Congrats on all you’ve done and aspire to do.’ Two things that remain Jake, I still fight better than you and you won’t accomplish 10 percent of what I have in boxing or life. “I los

Happy with change of scenery, ex-Bellator champ Julia Budd eyeing a 2022 PFL title

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-10-28

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Julia Budd’s PFL debut was a successful one Wednesday, and now she’s firmly focused on winning a title with the promotion in 2022. Budd (16-3) swept the judges’ scorecards for a unanimous decision win over Kaitlin Young (12-11-1) on the 2021 PFL Championship prelims. The former Bellator featherweight champion moved up to lightweight for the first time in her career, and that’s presumably the division in which she’ll compete in next year in PFL’s 2022 season. “I actually could (feel the difference in weight),” Budd told MMA Junkie after her win. “I weighed in (Wednesday morning) at 154 (pounds). I know I’m strong, and I’m fit and athletic. I just knew it’s not about the size of the person in there. It’s everything else. But I definitely felt the size difference.” In Wednesday’s main event, Kayla Harrison stayed unbeaten and won her second PFL $1 million championship in the women’s lightweight division. But Harrison is a free agent n

Virna Jandiroba expecting rebounding Amanda Ribas to be 'hungry' at UFC 267

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-10-28

Virna Jandiroba knows she’s getting a very game Amanda Ribas on Saturday. Ribas, who had her first octagon loss to Marina Rodriguez in her most recent outing, will look to get back to the win column when she faces Jandiroba (17-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in the featured prelim of UFC 267. With rising star Ribas (10-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) coming off a knockout loss, Jandiroba knows her opponent has a lot to prove – which makes her even more dangerous. “She’s a complete fighter, and on my side I’m trying to focus on myself and what I’m doing and what I can do to her than her as an opponent – just trying to focus on vulnerabilities and things that we’re able to explore,” Jandiroba said Wednesday at the UFC 267 media day. “Coming off a win, it was a very interesting camp and the last two fights were very interesting opponents that allowed me to develop a lot. She’s coming off a loss, so I think for sure she’s going to be very hungry, so it has the makings to be a very interesting

Gaslighting fans and fighters key part of UFC negotiation strategy

Source: Bloody Elbow
Date: 2021-10-28

Dana White is trying to gaslight Nate Diaz, Kayla Harrison and UFC fans | Photo by Michael Owens/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLCThe UFC President tries to create false narratives around Nate Diaz, Kayla Harrison, and other people they want to negotiate with. UFC president Dana White worked in two of the UFC’s favorite negotiating tactics into a single interview. Neither strategy was new, but to hear and see White use them back-to-back in discussing Nate Diaz and Kayla Harrison was a little jarring in its brazenness. Nate Diaz, who White once referred to as “not a needle mover” to downplay Diaz’s popularity and degrade the fighter’s negotiating power, has one fight left on his UFC contract. It appears Diaz, who is one of the company’s biggest draws, plans to fight out his deal and see what the free market brings to the table. The UFC usually tries to dissuade fighters from taking that route. The promotion likes to re-sign fighters when they have one or more fights on their deals. Wh
