Date: 2021-09-22

Photo by Mike Roach/Zuffa LLCUltimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently updated its official rankings in the wake of the UFC Vegas 37 mixed martial arts (MMA) event last Sat. night (Sept. 18, 2021) inside APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, where longtime light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith improved his position by turning away fellow 205-pound bruiser Devin Clark. Elsewhere on the charts, the flyweight division went into the shop for repairs following the retirement of former title contender Joseph Benavidez. In addition, women’s bantamweight standout Raquel Pennington returned to the Top 10 with her winning performance against Pannie Kianzad on the UFC Vegas 37 undercard. Here’s how UFC compiles its official rankings: Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in

DWCS 40 winner AJ Dobson wanted to 'throw caution to the wind' to deliver an exciting fight

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-09-22

LAS VEGAS – AJ Dobson had no intention of playing it safe at Dana White’s Contender Series 40. Dobson (6-0) faced fellow unbeaten knockout artist Hashem Arkhagha in the night’s headliner on Tuesday in what was a wild affair. Both men came out swinging, but it was Dobson who was able to connect with the harder shots and stumble Arkhagha. The Jordanian showed incredible toughness, but Dobson never let him off the hook, earning the first-round submission and a UFC contract. “I usually don’t fight like that,” Dobson told MMA Junkie and other reporters in attendance at the UFC Apex following Tuesday’s Dana White’s Contender Series 40 event. “I’m usually a lot more technical, and I like to display my skills but I saw that there were no finishes, and I know the Contender Series, Dana was saying he wants you to be exciting. Michael Bisping said you gotta go video game style and try to go for the win so I wanted to really throw caution to the wind, give an exciting fight

'You couldn't be f*cking dumber': Dana White unloads on Showtime for brawl between Canelo, Plant

Source: MMA Junkie
Date: 2021-09-22

LAS VEGAS – UFC president Dana White knows a thing or two about brawls at press conferences. On Tuesday afternoon, a brawl broke out at the pre-fight press conference for an upcoming boxing match between Caleb Plant and Canelo Alvarez. White, if present, is usually the man standing between UFC fighters when they come face-to-face at press conferences and weigh-ins, but was confused as to why the promoters allowed the two boxers to get so close without someone standing between them should tempers flare. “I’m not surprised at ‘sh*t-Showtime’ those guys are great, they’re really good at what they do – from production, to press conferences, they’re f*cking awesome,” White said sarcastically during the Dana White’s Contender Series 40 post-fight news conference on Tuesday evening. “How long have you been in the business, that you would let two fighters go up to each other, face-to-face, without somebody there to try to (stop them).” The brawl between the two fight

Paul accuses Fury of turning down two fight offers

Jake Paul after his fight with Tyron Woodley. | Photo by Jason Miller/Getty ImagesJake Paul has turned down two offers to fight him. In August Jake Paul improved his fledgling pro boxing record to 4-0 with a split decision win over former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. That win followed a TKO over Ben Askren earlier this year. Since then a host of individuals have been interested in facing off with ‘The Problem Child’, including Woodley—who is insisting he won’t get his ‘I love Jake’ tattoo unless a rematch is arranged. One figure who expressed a desire to fight Paul both before and immediately after the Woodley fight is Tommy Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight boxing champ Tyson Fury. Fury, who is also a reality TV star, won on the Paul vs. Woodley undercard, beating Paul’s sparring partner Anthony Taylor. Fury and Paul scuffled backstage at that event, with Fury challenging Paul to a fight and claiming that the famous YouTuber was afraid to fight him. H

UFC 266 Clash: Diaz Vs. Lawler 2!

Source: MMA Mania
Date: 2021-09-22

Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty ImagesUltimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight legends Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler will rematch this weekend (Sat., Sept. 25, 2021) at UFC 266 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC sells the UFC product more than the specific fighters. Most weekends, the UFC Apex hosts a fairly random assortment of talent, and fans tune in because the promotion largely lives up to its promise of providing a fun night of combat sports each and every time. The storylines and consequences are consistent, and the faces often revolving. It’s the sport and product we love, but even the most diehard supports would have a hard time arguing that the current system is formulaic. Not this fight! This fight is magic! It’s awesome! It doesn’t mean a f—ing thing to the Welterweight title picture, and we’re all better off for it. At a combined nearly 80 years of age, Nick Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler 2 is the best fight on the whole pay-per-

Morning Report: Dana White addresses issues surrounding Nick Diaz-Robbie Lawler and Dan Hooker-Nasrat Haqparast fights

Source: MMA Fighting
Date: 2021-09-22

Photo by Mike Roach/Zuffa LLCIt wouldn’t be a UFC fight weekend if there wasn’t some last-minute drama. Earlier this week, it was revealed that the highly anticipated lightweight bout for this weekend’s UFC 266 card between Dan Hooker and Nasrat Haqparast was in jeopardy as both Hooker and Haqparast were facing visa issues to enter the United States. Hooker ultimately had his issues resolved and is scheduled to land in Vegas on Thursday evening, lass than a day before weigh-ins, but Haqparast is still waiting to hear back from the U.S. Consulate in Germany. But even though nothing has been officially solved yet, UFC President Dana White is confident they’re going to get this settled in time for the fight to go on. “We’re working on it,” White said at the press conference following last night’s Contender Series. “We should be able to get this done. I’m hoping we can. You guys have no idea how much sh*t we deal with with visa and stuff, and we’ve got a really good

The rest is history. Fast forward several years later and the unbeaten 24-year-old Souza (5-0) is about to make her ONE Championship debut against the highly touted Victoria Lee (2-0), younger sister of ONE Championship title holders Angela and Christian Lee. “My professional career has been meteoric,” Souza told MMA Junkie. “I started out in 2017. I liked it and kept training.” Souza, who’s Brazilian, said she had her first sparring sessions with UFC veteran Thiago Tavares after six months of training.
